After looking at some suggestions and seeing some cars that I liked, but not the prices I liked, I was wondering about a cheaper alternative (cheaper as in, I dont have to pay for boat fees). I was thinking about making a trip to the great white north. I hear that Canada's import laws are a lot less strict than the U.S's, and that I might find some luck with cars up there. I was thinking about maybe taking a flight or a road trip, and buying a car then driving it down (I'd be bringing my dad with me). Are there any craigslist, or cars.com type of sites that you guy recommend?

kijiji.ca. It's got a good interface, and makes it easy to sort out what you're looking for.

Agreed. I think the interface is great. It makes craigslist look like shit.
It's worth noting that you can search an entire province instead of just the local Kijiji. ontario.kijiji.ca is one of my go-tos.
Autotrader.ca can also be useful.

If he wants a jdm car, British Colombia kijiji is the place to go. I hear r34 GTRs are being imported as we speak

Definitely but it depends where he is. Toronto [and the rest of the GTA] has a pretty decent import scene as well if that is much closer to where he lives. I've seen a couple of R32 and R33 GTRs as well as some Sylvias and JDM Subarus running around.

I'm in NJ. Toronto/Ontario is the best place. Thanks man.

Sorry for this maybe ignorant question, but if you bring something down that can't be imported here in the first place, won't you run afoul of the same US import restrictions? Or are you wanting to import something old that might just already exist in Canada?

Pretty sure you still need to follow US import rules, since you reside in the US, and the car will be titled/registered/plated in the US.
UNLESS you register it as a track only car, or do illegal VIN plate swapping.

Take a look at the NHTSA website I linked you too in your other post. Just because it's in Canada doesn't make it legal here. So make sure it's something that can be brought in. Also all the same import paperwork will need to be done and duties paid. Its just a little different if done when driving it back.

Those can't be brought back to the US.

There is no such thing as registering it as a track car. True race cars can be imported as race cars on the customs form, but you'll need proof that it was manufactured as a race car, and was NEVER produced with the intention of it operating on public roads. So race cars built out of street cars don't count.
Anyone advertising a 'track-only' car that's actually a road car that's not supposed to be here, stands a chance to have their car seized.

Thanks for the clarification.
With Evo IV's beginning to pop up in Canada, I have been interested in getting one to the states. But I just do not see it happening in a way where I could sleep at night wondering when my house would be rushed by federal agents and my car towed away to be crushed.
